 Introduction to Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health

This hour-long training will provide a basic introduction to infant and early childhood mental health. 

Session Goals and Objectives

  • Review principles of early childhood development 
  • Learn the importance of positive caregiver relationship
  • Define infant/early childhood mental health
  • Understand the importance of healthy, social emotional development in young children
  • Learn how to nurture social emotional development and mental health 
  • Introduce self-care

 

Instructor: María Ortiz, IMH-E®

Maria M. Ortiz is a dedicated infant mental health professional with a specialization in infants and toddlers. With a master’s degree in Mental Health and Early Education and over 20 years of experience in early childhood development, Maria is passionate about promoting healthy emotional and cognitive development in young children. She has extensive experience working in diverse settings, including Early Intervention and Early Head Start programs. Maria is committed to providing nurturing and supportive environments for infants and toddlers to thrive. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, taking leisurely walks at the beach, reading books, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Endorsement: This training may meet IMH Competencies that support your preparation to earn the Florida Infant Mental Health Endorsement.

 

Certificates & Continuing Education Units

Certificate: Upon successful completion of the training, a certificate of completion will be earned. A certificate will only be provided to those who attended the full training session (1 hour).

 

Technology Requirements:

To ensure the best possible experience for all participants, the program relies on online video conferencing, which has minimum requirements to work properly. You will need a desktop or laptop computer with speakers, microphone, and webcam, and a high-speed internet connection. Laptops work best because they come with all the necessary equipment and can easily be moved from room to room in your home or office to find a quiet place.
