Professional use of self & parallel process in reflective supervision/consultation: A focus on the supervisor’s experience
Description:
Professional use of self and parallel process are concepts used within infant and early childhood mental health intervention. Trainings are often offered to those providing direct services to young children and families that focus on recognizing emotional responses and wondering about how these responses can inform their therapeutic work. This workshop will focus on these concepts within the reflective supervision/consultation relationship and support supervisors in ways to identify and use their emotional responses to promote relationships within supervision/consultation. This workshop offers an opportunity to delve more deeply into these concepts, investigate their theoretical base, and explore barriers and facilitation strategies that can play a role in developing a capacity to identify and use these processes in our work.
Learning Objectives:
-
Examine the theoretical perspective of the Professional Use of Self and Parallel Process.
-
Identify 1-3 ways to navigate the parallel process in their work with supervisees.
-
List 1-3 ways professional use of self can inform their work with supervisees.
