Reflective Supervision/Consultation (RSC) Training 2024-2025 (online)

Best practice in serving young children and families includes a workforce who receives ongoing support and opportunities for reflection about both the successes and the challenges encountered in their work.

Reflective supervision/consultation (RSC) is a form of intentional, regularly scheduled professional support that focuses on enhancing the reflective capacity of professionals in order to increase the quality of services to children & families and to support staff wellbeing, job satisfaction, and retention.

Reflective supervision/consultation:

  • supports staff to provide services in ways that support healthy relationships and optimal growth and development of the child

  • encourages staff and family wellbeing, and

  • supports staff through difficult situations they encounter in their work with families.

Description:

This 12-hour training series is for professionals who supervise providers working directly with young children (0-5) and their families. Participants will learn key principles of RSC and will develop skills and strategies that can enhance their reflective supervision capacities, help support the professional growth and development of their supervisees, and assess their own strengths and areas for growth as a provider of RSC. Participants will learn how to successfully navigate challenges & growth opportunities commonly encountered in an RSC experience.

Best for:

  • Infant/Early Childhood Professionals who are planning to become Reflective Supervisors/Consultants and need the required hours of competency-based training
  • Infant/Early Childhood Professionals who are providing Reflective Supervision in their role currently and want to earn IMH Endorsement® to become an Endorsed Reflective Supervisor (so that you can then provide RSC to all others seeking Endorsement® and to those who need RSC for Endorsement® renewal)
  • Those who are currently receiving RSC through your work or privately. (If you are not currently receiving RSC, we recommend attending the full Reflective Learning Collaborative to get both the Training + RSC required for Endorsement®.)

Recommended for:  Supervisors across a range of infant/early childhood fields focused on promotion or prevention can participate, including:

  • Head Start/Early Head Start

  • Early Intervention / Inclusion (Early Steps, Early Learning Coalitions)

  • Home Visiting (Healthy Start Coalitions, Healthy Families, Nurse Family Partnership, PAT, HIPPY, etc.)

No previous experience providing reflective supervision is necessary, but having an introductory understanding of RSC would be helpful.
