The Growing Brain from Birth to 5 Years

This innovative training curriculum focuses on evidence-informed knowledge and strategies with which to prepare professionals who work with infants and young children for their vital role in building healthy brains. The curriculum fills a unique niche by providing a comprehensive understanding of how the brain develops, along with ways the professional can encourage healthy brain development in children from birth to 5 years old.

Participants will learn skills and strategies for understanding and supporting:

  • Brain development (architecture and neurobiology) to inform their practice with infants, young children & their families;
  • Language, cognition, prosocial behavior, and social-emotional development birth to five; and
  • Reducing toxic stress that can negatively influence brain development of young children.

 

Trainer: Clarissa DeWitt, LMHC, RPT, IMH-E® and Zero to Three The Growing Brain Certified Trainer

Clarissa DeWitt serves as Senior Clinical Director for the Child First program at the Center for Child Counseling where she focuses on providing reflective supervision for staff within the Child First program. She is trained in a wide variety of treatment models including Child Parent Psychotherapy, EMDR, TF-CBT and variety of play therapy models. She received specialized training through the Harris Institute with Florida State University focusing on the unique issues of pregnant women and their young children. Ms. DeWitt uses a strength-based perspective addressing behavior issues, trauma/PTSD, mood disorders and family issues.

**Note: This 21-hour training series is held in 7 sessions on Monday and Wednesday mornings (9:00 AM-12:00 PM ET/ 8:00 AM-11:00 AM CT) over 4 weeks**

Open to all FAIMH Members throughout Florida who work with infants, young children and their families, especially early learning providers, Head Start/Early Head Start providers, education specialists & family support staff, early childhood program administrators, early intervention specialists, inclusion specialists, Early Steps providers and mental health specialists.

 

Registration

FAIMH Member Rate: $350 for the full 7-session training series (21 hours)

(For Non-Members) Registration + Membership: $400 for the full 7-session training series

Agency Member Rate: $300 per person

 

Location

This training will be held online via Zoom.

Zoom link info will be sent to paid registrants approx. 24 hours before the training begins.

 

Certificates & Continuing Education Units

Certificate: Upon successful completion of full The Growing Brain series, a certificate of completion will be earned. A certificate will only be provided to those who attended the full 21-hour series (all 7 sessions).

CEUs: Continuing education (2.1 CEUs) for child care providers (teachers, administrators) will be provided in partnership with the Florida Association for the Education of Young Children (FLAEYC). Payment and completion of all CEU requirements will occur directly with FLAEYC at the end of the training series. Email us for more information.

Continuing education (21 hours) for licensed clinical social workers, marriage & family therapists, and mental health counselors will be offered by the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health, an approved provider for continuing education by the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling (CE Provider #50-30846).
