Training Academy: Newborn TOUCH
Event Details
presents... Newborn TOUCH
Newborn T.O.U.C.H. (Touch, Observe, Understand, Communicate, Hold) emphasizes the critical role the physical, social and emotional environment in shaping healthy development. This relationship-focused approach promotes family-centered care practices that nurture growth through each phase of development. These care practices include reducing maternal stress, protection of the developing fetus, and promoting parental attachment. In addition, this training also addresses ways to "hold" families by supporting maternal-infant resilience. The curriculum builds a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and competencies to create a caregiving environment in which newborns and their families can thrive.
Gain the knowledge and skills you need to support families in helping their newborns cry less, sleep more and flourish as they develop through infancy and beyond. This course provides strategies and resources to support families in transition from pregnancy to parenting, with special emphasis on the “4th Trimester” of newborn development. Newborn TOUCH training features numerous care practices to promote relationship-based experiences as a foundation for the physical, social and emotional development of infants, their families and caregivers so all can thrive.
In this training, participants will...
1. identify the emerging sensory pathways of the developing fetus during pregnancy,
2. describe care practices for early parenthood that optimize early infant brain development during day-to-day interactions with newborns, their families and caregivers,
3. define infant/young child development and behavior with emphasis on the critical “4th Trimester” of newborn growth as the foundation for all future learning,
4. identify newborn behaviors, states and cues, and
5. apply relationship-focused and family-centered care practices to further develop the attachment relationship between newborns and their caregivers.
