The Growing Brain: Understanding Behavior Unit
Goal: To understand how children’s behavior is influenced by the brain
Objectives:
- Understand basic brain anatomy
- Understand the connection between the various areas of the brain and how these connections are expressed through behavior
- Understand key factors that influence behavior
- Understand the root causes of challenging behavior and effective strategies for helping children with these difficulties
Trainer: Dr. Alexandra Alfonso, Zero to Three Certified Trainer
Dr. Alfonso is a bilingual/bicultural Licensed Psychologist that has been working with young children and their families for over 7 years. Dr. Alfonso serves as the Clinical Supervisor and Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Lead for Citrus Health Network's Early Childhood Development program. Dr. Alfonso's expertise includes social emotional skill development, school readiness, relationship based interventions, trauma informed care, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, teacher/caregiver trainings, and reflective supervision
Location: This training will be held online via Zoom.
Zoom link info will be sent to paid registrants several times beginning one week before the training begins.
Open to: All professionals who work with infants, young children and their families.

Single Session for (New Membership) Agency + Training Support members: Free (Training slots included in membership)
Single Session for All Other Members (Individual & Agency Levels 1-3): $40
Single Session for Non-Members: $50
Single Session CEU Add On Ticket: $10
Endorsement:
This training may meet IMH Competencies that support your preparation to earn the Florida Infant Mental Health Endorsement.
Certificates & Continuing Education Units
Certificate: Upon successful completion of full The Growing Brain series, a certificate of completion will be earned. A certificate will only be provided to those who attended the full 12-hour series (all 3sessions).
CEUs:
Continuing education (12 hours) for licensed clinical social workers, marriage & family therapists, and mental health counselors will be offered by the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health, an approved provider for continuing education by the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling (CE Provider #50-30846).
Continuing education (12 hours) for psychologists will be offered by the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health, an approved provider for continuing education by the Florida Board of Psychology (CE Provider # 50-30846).
Technology Requirements:
To ensure the best possible experience for all participants, the program relies on online video conferencing, which has minimum requirements to work properly. You will need a desktop or laptop computer with speakers, microphone, and webcam, and a high-speed internet connection. Laptops work best because they come with all the necessary equipment and can easily be moved from room to room in your home or office to find a quiet place.
